Padua Canty is a dedicated teacher and accomplished performer passionate about helping young musicians thrive. She brings her love of music, enthusiasm for teaching, and strong conservatory background to every lesson.
Padua is the founder and director of Sound String Academy, where she offers private lessons and engaging group classes for violin and viola students as young as three years old. She is a frequent clinician for schools and music programs throughout the Puget Sound region, including the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, Tacoma Music Collaborative, Evergreen Music Festival, Pacific Lutheran University Honor Orchestra, Suzuki Association of Washington State Fall Festival, and the Second City Chamber Series Young Chamber Players workshop.
Her own musical journey began at age four at the Suzuki Institute of Seattle, giving her a deep understanding of the importance of a positive and inspiring learning environment. Padua loves connecting students with the joy of music while building strong technique and lifelong confidence.
In addition to teaching, Padua maintains an active performing career as principal violist with Tacoma Opera, Tacoma City Ballet, and Vashon Opera. She also performs as both a violinist and violist with ensembles throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Northwest Sinfonietta, Symphony Tacoma, Spokane Symphony, Auburn Symphony, and many others.
Padua earned her Master of Music degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where she served as Teaching Assistant to Professor Ivo-Jan van der Werff, and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree from Arizona State University, studying with Nancy Buck.
An avid chamber musician, she has worked with members of world-renowned ensembles including The Juilliard String Quartet, Tokyo String Quartet, Brentano String Quartet, Saint Lawrence String Quartet, Medici String Quartet, Cleveland Quartet, and Concord String Quartet. Her festival experience includes the Tanglewood Music Center, International Festival Institute at Round Top, Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory, ARIA International Summer Academy, and Musikalische Sommerkurse Leutkirch.
