Mission

Music for a Lifetime!
Making great music, having a great time.

The mission of the South Sound Choir Academy is to provide high quality musical education and experiences to people of all ages, building a community of lifelong learners and confident musicians.

Our vision is by doing so we will promote camaraderie, self-discipline, confidence, and creativity amongst our students as well as empower them to be successful in music and in life.

We believe that
  • Music education is the right of every human being, not just the musically gifted.
  • The voice is the ideal first instrument, being internal and freely accessible to most
  • Music literacy is essential to creating life-long music-makers
  • Music education should be a participatory, experience-based endeavor, one that is highly sequential as well as playful
  • Students deserve musically and pedagogically skilled teachers.

South Sound Choir Academy is committed to cultivating an organization that embraces, models, and supports the values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Our ongoing work includes examining practices and policies to ensure that we foster a culture of acceptance and respect for all individuals, that we reflect the populations and communities we serve, and that we ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities. We will continue to assess and address our work to ensure we do not perpetuate systemic exclusion, disenfranchisement and disinvestment of groups and individuals.

We acknowledge that we operate on the traditional homelands of the Puyallup and Nisqually Tribes, and on lands with deep significance to other Coast Salish tribes. Coast Salish people have lived on and stewarded these lands since time immemorial and continue to do so today. We recognize that this land acknowledgement is one small step toward true allyship and we commit to uplifting the voices, experiences, and histories of the Indigenous people of this land and beyond.
